Bob's Burgers: The Lost City of Atlantic (15x15)

Fun new setting, lots of intrigue!

Cons:

I honestly don't have anything to complain about in this one! I hope Linda's newfound half-aunt recurs in the show later on, that was fun!

Pros:

The kids and Bob had the subplots this week, and both were pretty fun! I loved that once again Tina is not being a spoil-sport about Louise's shenanigans, she also seems to understand that wandering around the slot machines is probably mostly harmless fun. And I loved that they "won" twelve dollars and had to get into negotiations with the old man who pulled the lever for them. They have this real kid energy of being genuinely enthused over things that really aren't that big or exciting.

Bob, too, has that gift for finding joy in life. It's one of the things that warms my heart most about this show, honestly, that while Bob is often the butt of the joke, or often the sad sack whose life isn't going exactly according to plan, he's still also this giddy kid at heart who's excited about the buffet offerings. "I made a new best friend... oh my god I forgot his name." That was a real laugh line for me from Bob there at the end!

And Linda - she has fond memories of her grandfather who used to work as a bartender at a casino, but those memories are tarnished when she realizes the mermaid performer looks an awful lot like her - and realizes that her grandfather had an affair with someone else at the casino, and had a child! I really liked how this was set up to be the grand revelation of the episode but then immediately after that, Linda finds out that her grandfather's old lover is planning a heist of the casino to get the money due to her and the other old timers. For a show with generally very low stakes, I thought it was fantastic to suddenly have an actual heist with large amounts of money in play. And how ridiculous that Linda went along with it, in the best way!

My favorite moments from this plot thread were probably the nephew and his girlfriend with their fake noses and wigs, awkwardly saying hi to their mermaid cousin, also Linda's realization in the moment that her grandfather had had an affair, and that they'd had a 65-year-old mermaid baby together. I also liked Linda's change of heart, and Louise's incredulity as they drive away and Linda tells the family what she's been up to. All great fun!

This was a winner for me! I'm curious if we'll have one or two episodes coming that are mostly focused on the restaurant, because we've been bouncing around to a bunch of different settings recently!

9/10
