Schitt's Creek: Rebound (6x09)

This was a classic episode in every way... I loved it from start to finish.

Cons:

I'm struggling to think of anything to really complain about... I guess if I had to nitpick, I'd say I miss Stevie having more to do. Her arc this season kind of got dropped. I wanted more out of her desire to spread her wings and fly.

Pros:

The main plot focuses on Alexis after her breakup with Ted. She seems chipper, but the family gets concerned (especially Johnny) when they see that she's dating a much, much older man. This leads to Alexis getting dumped by her new man, after Johnny has a talk with him, and eventually Alexis allows her father to comfort her.

I really liked the random old man Alexis was dating. He was acting like he was unaware that he was the same age, or older, than Alexis' father. It was funny how much of a non-issue it seemed to be for him. Also, the show could have gone the direction of having this character be a total loser or something, but he actually just seemed like a perfectly normal dude with a successful career and a family. Sure, it's weird that he's dating someone so much younger than him... but Alexis is in her thirties. It's not actually predatory. And there wasn't any dumb plot thread about he and Johnny getting into a fight. Honestly, Johnny just told him the situation and the guy bowed out. It's another example of this show going with a more restrained, realistic scenario!

Also, Johnny comforting Alexis was just so sweet. He even acknowledged that he hadn't been around for her when she was younger, going through heartbreaks, which I thought was a nice reminder of what this town has given to the Rose family. They have a new closeness, and it's nice to see that. Of course, Johnny is still profoundly uncomfortable when Alexis breaks down crying... Rome wasn't built in a day!

Meanwhile, Moira is in trouble because of some unflattering comments she made about the town in an interview. This plot thread was mostly just goofy fun, but it had me chuckling the whole way through. The video at the end where Moira struggles to come up with nice things to say was absolutely hilarious. One of those clips I would show someone to try and convince them to watch the show. And her over-dramatized language around her car getting egged was also pretty great. Poor Stevie just did not want to be involved!

The other subplot was even funnier - Jocelyn pressures David and Patrick into hiring her to work at the Apothecary. Patrick is willing to give her a shot, but David is much less excited. Then, turns out Jocelyn is great - they have a great day with record sales. At the end of the day, Patrick convinces David that they should offer her a position, but Jocelyn turns them down, saying it's not really her thing. Patrick is hurt and disappointed, and David is maybe gloating just a little bit.

I loved this depiction of Patrick and David as they navigate through a typical low-stakes argument. And Jocelyn being really good at the job was the perfect subversion of expectations. Then, for it to get flipped again when she turns down the job... I loved Patrick's stunned reaction, and the way David hangs all over him and is clearly trying not to laugh. They're so funny.

That's what I've got! Only a few short weeks before this show will be done for good... I'm sad to be saying goodbye!

9/10
