The Big Bang Theory: The Raiders Minimization (7x04)

Ultimately, this is an episode with very little substance. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, because it still had a lot of funny jokes, but there was really nothing going on here that added to a deeper understanding of the characters or advanced a larger plot in any way. Let's take a look.

Amy and Sheldon watch The Raiders of the Lost Ark, which Amy enjoys, despite the story problem. Sheldon doesn't believe there could be any flaw, but Amy points out something obvious: Indiana Jones actually makes no difference to the plot. With or without him, the Nazis would have found the Ark, opened it, and died. Sheldon is angry that Amy ruined the movie for him, so he tries to ruin something Amy loves, such as Little House on the Prairie or Garfield. Sheldon and the other guys all try to come up with a way to refute Amy's claim about Indiana Jones, but they are unsuccessful.

As I said, nothing really plot-oriented going on here, but this was still really funny. It's actually an incredibly good point. My jaw dropped right along with Sheldon's when Amy pointed out the problem.

Meanwhile, Penny buys a book for her psychology class written by Leonard's mom. He's upset by this, because it contains a lot of embarrassing things from his childhood. However, Penny is so sympathetic that Leonard plays up his pain in order to get Penny to do things for him, such as watch documentaries with him and have sex with him at work. The plan unravels when Howard tries to pull the same stunt with Bernadette, who then reveals all to Penny. Penny traps Leonard by dressing in a sexy nightie but then surprising Leonard with a Skype call from his mother instead.

There were some decent jokes in here but really nothing to write home about. My favorite part was just the mention of Penny going to school, since I'm excited to see where her education will take her.

The third plot involved Raj and Stuart submitting profiles on a dating site, but they have bad luck. Nobody tries to contact them, even though they see people checking out their profiles. They decide it would be better to just go out to bars and get rejected, rather than getting rejected online.

Again, there were some funny jokes such as Stuart's inability to take a good picture, but there wasn't really anything of larger significance going on here. I hope we get to see Raj find love at some point.

So, yeah. An episode of decent amusement (especially the Sheldon and Amy plot) but nothing earth shattering.

7/10
