Bob's Burgers: Boogie Days (15x07)

Aw, some bonding time for Bob and Louise! I love it!

Cons:

I think I could have used a final beat in the Teddy subplot to show him having turned around on the birthday party thing. Our final moment with him is him being bad at telling left from right and giving confusing instructions, but it didn't seem like he was ever reconciled to having the party thrown for him. Could have had some good comedy potential there, with either him turning around and being suddenly really enthusiastic, or him blowing up at Linda and storming out, and the others all continuing to have his party without him. Either way, something bigger might have been nice!

Pros:

That said, I do love Teddy and Linda as a dynamic duo because often times Teddy gets to be the reasonable one, and Linda is the one who's going over the top and being pushy. It's a flip of how Teddy is with Bob, and that's fun to see! I liked the bit where Linda was monitoring the mood of the post-funeral group of friends, optimistic and then pessimistic in turn as their conversation kept lightening up and then turning back into bummers as they lamented the passing of their friend.

In the main plot, Louise is enthusiastic about a boogie board competition for dads and daughters, due to the $100 first prize. Bob is hesitant because of a scary almost-drowning moment he'd had, but Linda is dismissive of the incident, Louise is insistent, and Bob finally agrees. When they get out into the water, Louise finally pushes her dad to tell her the story, and when Bob does, it freaks her out in turn. I love moments when we get to see Louise really being a kid - she gets spooked and wants to quit, and Bob is at first all too happy to let her. But then, they have a moment where they decide to go back and face their fears!

I love that they got fourth place, that feels just right. And Louise being excited about it instead of angry that they didn't do better was also just the right note to go out on. I'm glad Bob and Louise decided to face their fears instead of running off, and I'm glad Louise learned that even if something isn't easy at first, doesn't mean it's not worth giving it a try.

8/10
