Schitt's Creek: Maid of Honour (6x04)

Patrick looked so very handsome in his suit!

Cons:

I thought Johnny and Roland's plot thread was mostly forgettable. It was like they were just trying to fill some time. We've seen that the new property has been purchased, so it's time to keep expanding... but then instead there's a guy living in one of the rooms who may be a squatter, so they have to worry about him. The whole thing culminated in an awkward standoff where the guy offered reasonable explanations for why he had a gun and a bag full of money, and Johnny and Roland looked ridiculous. There was nothing bad or wrong with this story, but it didn't really move me in any way, either.

I wish this episode had more Patrick. That's going to be a consistent thing for me... I just really love Patrick a lot, you guys.

Pros:

Moira's plot thread was centered around the new trailer for her Crows movie. She shows it to everyone, and is less than thrilled with Jocelyn's tepid response. Jocelyn is basically conned into writing effusive praise for the trailer, in order to make Moira feel better.

Most of the laughs of this episode were in this plot thread, for me. I loved how Twyla was just totally taken in by the shitty trailer, asking questions about the behavior of the crows on set, and asking Moira: "was that really you the whole time?!" I also loved how clearly awful and cheesy the movie looks, including Moira's performance. But nobody is framing it like that, and Moira is clearly taking it all very seriously! The scene at the beginning where they try to watch the trailer, but there's an ad before it, and it keeps buffering, was also quite fun.

And I appreciate what this plot thread says about Moira's growth. Sure, she's caught up in her own fantasies about her acting career, but she also deeply values Jocelyn's opinion. She can pretend it's just because she craves approval from her fans, but it seems pretty clear that Jocelyn's opinion, specifically, means a lot to her. It was sweet to see her craving that approval, and even sweeter that Jocelyn put the effort in to giving her that approval.

My favorite story of the night goes to the Rose siblings, Patrick, and Stevie. It seems that David had asked Stevie to be his Maid of Honour when he thought that Alexis wasn't going to be around. And now Alexis wants her job back. Cue some shenanigans and some awkward communication issues. Just when it seems Stevie is going to back out, discouraged by her directionless life and lack of skills as a maid of honour, Alexis selflessly lets Stevie keep the job, even coaching her on which tie to select for Patrick's suit.

We are continuing the journey of Stevie's growth by showing her here in the midst of a setback. She took the flight attendant job but then bailed on it when she got scared, and now she feels more directionless than ever. And we're also seeing Alexis' growth, as she notices how Stevie is feeling and realizes what she needs. I loved that!

Also, as I mentioned, Patrick looked handsome as hell.

I think that's all for now - this episode contained one plot thread that I consider to be something of a dud, but it was still a fun episode overall!

8/10
