No! No Winston and Jules! Bad!
Cons:
The thing is, I don't have any objections because of age difference or power imbalance or anything like that. If I thought Jules and Winston were compelling in any way, I wouldn't be so annoyed. It's just... that scene at the end, she's looking up at him with the wettest, saddest little bambi eyes, and he's giving... nothing. There's just nothing there, the spark does not exist, and it feels like they're trying to push this romance based on absolutely nothing. Where is this coming from? Why are we bothering with it? Ugh.
I lost some respect for Dr. Wright in this episode. Her little speech to Jules about how residency is like high school and she needs everyone to rise above the petty drama... girl, this is serious. You're the one who keeps talking about how serious it is, how there's been neglect. I'm not saying believe Jules without proof, but don't brush off what she's saying like it's not important. That felt like a serious breach of leadership there.
Another character I was irritated with this week was Richard, I thought him snapping at Ben and the other baby doctor about the spleen thing was so unprofessional and just all around a bad look? Like, in the end he admits to Ben that he's worked up thinking about prevention measures and would normally have reacted with the same degree of excitement, so where exactly does he get off chastising them and shaming them?
Pros:
I continue to feel so sad and tender about Katie, the patient who is now being put on palliative care after her experimental treatment was defunded. I liked that Bailey tried to go the traditional route, even though she's haunted by guilt. I liked the moment where Lucas reassured her that she'd done everything she could. I could see myself crying when they show me Katie moved into the house with Lucas and Simone and Blue all taking shifts watching over her. I do have one slight fear which is that bonding over caring for this dying woman is going to push Simone and Lucas back into each other's arms and I'm already annoyed at the thought. Owen and Teddy was bad enough.
Kwan, my favorite character on this show these days, is caught between Mohanty and Jules over the M&M incident. Mohanty lies to an entire room of her colleagues about Jules placing the faulty stitch, and then acts like this is no big deal, which is crazy to me. Jules getting upset is extremely rational, and I loved that small moment when Simone assured her she wasn't being too dramatic about this. Kwan hears Mohanty out, but ultimately can't be with someone who would behave that way. Jules is his friend. They're not as similar as they thought they were. It's a very gentle breakup moment, sort of "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed," which I thought was pretty bad-ass of Kwan, honestly. I do hope Mohanty fesses up or is caught out in another lie or something, because wow, I've lost all respect for her. She's terrible.
This is a little shorter than my usual Grey's reviews, but I think that's all I want to comment on. Link, you suck. Mohanty, you suck. Wright, you're on thin ice with the dismissive attitude. Winston, please become a more interesting character so I can try and get on board with this dumb Jules/Winston thing. Kwan, please start sleeping with Simone so she doesn't fall back into bed with Lucas. Everyone will be better off that way, I swear.
7/10
