Bob's Burgers: Mr. Fischoeder's Opus (15x11)

Eyyy we're back!

Cons:

I sort of wish the part of the episode actually at the symphony had been longer? Like, why not have the party be a reception directly before the orchestra is going to play, they've rehearsed it the "slow" way and Fischoeder is going to surprise them during the performance with the faster conducting, but then shenanigans occur... it just felt sort of weird pacing-wise to have the big scene be at the Fischoeder residence, and then cut to a different setting for the payoff of those plot points.

Pros:

I liked the kids and Felix a lot, it was so funny to see them trying to manipulate one another, obviously the kids get one over on him pretty easily. This is an episode when the kids function as a single unit, we don't see Tina trying to push back against the suggestion that they explore the mansion, she's as interested in it as the other two are. I loved the moment with Fischoeder telling Felix to watch the kids, but really he's telling the kids to watch Felix. "What's your favorite flavor of ayahuasca" indeed. Oh brother.

I also liked how seriously Fischoeder actually takes this whole thing. The orchestra head is annoyed at having random rich people conducting, because it's a farce of what they work so hard to do as professionals, and that makes a lot of sense. But it's clear that Fischoeder isn't doing this on a whim, he actually cares deeply about this music and has given it a lot of thought. It was oddly sweet to see him so unabashedly passionate about a work of art. And I liked that even though Bob and Linda don't have the same passion for this thing, they were actually trying to understand where he came from and connect with him on it!

As always I don't have a ton to say when reviewing this show because mostly it's just a pleasant time with characters who have become really comforting to me over the years... I'm glad to have this show back after a long break!

8/10
