Okay, stuff is happening, let's dive in!
Cons:
I'm not sure I like the wishy-washy decision that we reach in the Meredith plot. So she's going to accept the huge cool new opportunity, and she doesn't have to move away from Seattle? Okay... seems kind of weird to artificially inject that drama, doesn't it? I also just find her love interest dude to be pretty bland. Not bad by any means, but also not particularly interesting.
Owen and Teddy are not compelling to me as a couple, sorry! I feel the need to keep repeating that.
Pros:
To my pleasant surprise, I found Richard and Bailey's plot thread the most interesting of the week. Richard is holding the Olympics for his residents, and Levi wins and gets to perform a solo surgery! It was fun, it felt like old-school Grey's, I like to see my boy Schmitt get a win under his belt, and Richard seemed so truly happy to be teaching people how to be great surgeons. This pairs with Bailey, as she is losing more and more of her surgeons to retirement or simply changing jobs, as they are all worn down from the pandemic and ready for a change. Together, Bailey and Richard need to work together to remind the hospital what they're all here for, and reinvigorate a sense of teamwork and purpose. I love this as a plot arc and I'm excited to see where we go with it. Helm and Schmitt are sweethearts and I like spending more time with them as well!
Maggie was absent this week, but we got some time with her hubby Winston, who works to help a patient who is not eligible for a transplant due to racist metrics baked into the system. I loved how much he cared, and how the white physician who had been helping the patient prior wasn't a bad person, but had simply missed this place in which medical prejudice had worked its way into the day-to-day realities of patient care. It was nice to see Winston get his own little story here. He's charming and handsome and he and Maggie seem to be really happy!
As much as Owen and Teddy frustrate me, I do like the little subplot where Leo is wearing princess dresses and Teddy is nervous that he'll be judged. It felt like a real moment, super relatable, and yet who the fuck would want to stop a little boy from dressing like Elsa if he wants? We'll have to see if they make anything of this.
I do love Jo very much, so seeing her live her best life, being an amazing mother to Luna and getting back to work as well, just brings me so much joy and happiness. Then you've got Link, who's still bitter and heartbroken about Amelia. I'm less thrilled about that, but if Jo and Link can replicate the Meredith and Alex relationship from earlier in the show, where they basically become family to each other's children, I could really get on board with that.
I should probably say a bit more about the exciting "cure Parkinson's" opportunity that Meredith and Amelia both have. I think this could be a good way to ground Amelia's story in something other than her fear of commitment and constant love life frustrations. I don't know what the future brings for Amelia, but I do ultimately want what's best for her.
That's all for now... this show always has enough going on that even if one plot thread doesn't grab me, another is sure to catch my attention.
8/10
