A bit of a mixed bag, honestly. I was expecting a lot more hilarious Star Wars material than I got. Let's go quickly.
The guys prepare to marathon all six Star Wars movies on May the 4th. Leonard tells Sheldon that Arthur Jeffries (Professor Proton) has died. His funeral is on May 4th, too.
Sheldon sleeps through the movie marathon, while Raj and Howard watch out in the living room. Jeffries comes to Sheldon in his dreams, fulfilling the role of Obi-Wan to Sheldon's Luke Skywalker, and giving him advice about life. The main piece of advice is to cherish the people in your life before they're gone.
Leonard and Penny go to the funeral and talk about regrets they have in their lives. Leonard says he regrets not saying yes to Penny's marriage proposal. This causes an argument about how many times they've each proposed to each other, and how they have to even the score by being rejected by each other the same number of times. When Leonard comes home, Sheldon gives him a hug, taking Jeffries' advice to cherish his friends.
Sheldon then makes Raj and Howard start over with the first episode of Star Wars again, so he can watch them all. Amy and Bernadette make a Death Star cake, so they can pretend to be interested in Star Wars Day without having to watch the movies.
Bad stuff?
At one point, Sheldon says he's had to say goodbye to "11 Doctor Whos." I will seriously hunt down the person who keeps making the same mistake in this show and shake some sense into them. The Doctor is not named "Doctor Who." He's just The Doctor. And Sheldon would certainly know that. Jeez.
Amy and Bernadette making jokes about their nerdy men again. Why can't any of the women in this damn show have an ounce of interest in pop culture nerdiness?
Good stuff:
Penny understanding all of the Star Wars puns. That was fantastic. Even if Penny still thinks this nerdy stuff is stupid, I love that she's learned about it.
The proposal jokes. It's sort of a foregone conclusion that we'll probably get a Penny/Leonard wedding eventually in this show, especially if it keeps going on and on like I think it will. I actually have enough of an interest in them as a couple to be really delighted about this future moment.
Sheldon's dreams about Jeffries. Sheldon is obviously having a hard time with the death of one of his childhood heroes, and I love that he processes it in his own way. That hug with Leonard was quite lovely, too.
In short, this episode had a lot of sentimental, nice stuff in it. But it wasn't very funny, for the most part, and I think they could have gotten a lot more bang for their buck, in making a Star Wars themed episode.
7/10
