Bob's Burgers: It's a Stunterful Life (16x09)

This was such a cute and fun episode!

Cons:

My least favorite of the plot threads, which was still fine but just nothing special, was Linda trying to save the Christmas trees that were destined to be made into mulch. This is a plot thread from an episode of Friends like 30 years ago. It's not that there's anything bad about it, I just saw Linda getting weirdly sentimental over dead trees and thought, yeah, yeah, I get it. I know where this is going. And there was nothing more really going on to challenge that.

Pros:

I did like the song at the end, though, I love whenever a credits song in this show really makes me want to listen, and this one was adorable, with the shots of all the rescued trees in the house.

Bob's plot thread was my favorite kind of Bob story, where he is an earnest dork about something and is really proud of himself for his skills. I just love that he ends up taking the cookie decorating so seriously, effectively teaching a little class on his techniques, including crushing a candy cane to imitate the texture of fur. In the end, he claims his cookies are too good to just leave out for Santa, and should instead be put on display somewhere. I love weirdly confident Bob, whenever he comes out! It was also funny how mean he was about his childrens' terrible cookie designs.

The bulk of our time in this episode is spent with the kids, who are riding a very slow train around the Christmas village to kill time before going to get cocoa. They run into Logan, and he and Louise start a stunt competition on the very slow train, jumping off to do various tasks and running back on again. This goes on for a while, as Tina and Gene get more and more bored by it all, and the whole thing culminates in Louise and Logan having to work together to retrieve a four-year-old's stuffed animal.

This was a fun and creative story, I liked seeing Louise and Logan's animosity get turned around a little. By the end, they're acknowledging that the day was a lot more fun because of their competition. I also thought it was really cute that all these kids collectively agreed that it was their responsibility to make sure that a much younger kid didn't suffer, like, they could have left it to the adults to retrieve the stuffy but they were on a mission because you don't make a four-year-old cry, you just don't.

So yeah, this one was a real win for me, what a fun premise! It felt legitimately Christmas-y.

9/10
