The Big Bang Theory: The Matrimonial Metric (11x12)

Completely unoffensive, a few good laughs... and yet I feel like there were some missed opportunities here.

Cons:

What I mean by missed opportunities is this: Sheldon and Amy spend the episode secretly testing their friends for the honor of being in the wedding party. This is all well and good, but what we don't get to see is the scene where Sheldon asks Leonard to be his best man. That would have been really sweet, as their friendship has been one of the cornerstones of this show from the very beginning. The fact that such an important moment happens off-screen seems like a shame to me.

Bernadette was present for just one short scene this week, although she still played a role in the plot... I guess this also falls under "missed opportunities," as I would have liked to see Bernie's reaction to Penny getting to be Amy's maid of honor. Maybe we'll see it next week?

Pros:

I found Sheldon and Amy's experimentation to be really fun. It's the kind of innocent fun that proves that these two work well together. There was no annoying vibe where Sheldon starts being selfish - they really were partners in their slightly cruel games. It was also fun to see them expand the pool of applicants by agreeing that a "gentleman of honor" or a "best woman" were also acceptable, so we see Sheldon testing Bernadette, and Amy testing Raj. That was a fun way to expand the possibilities. (Although, another missed opportunity - I would have loved to see Amy and Sheldon fight over Penny, considering how close they both are to her.)

In the end, the result is exactly what you would expect: Sheldon chooses Leonard as his best man, while Amy chooses Penny as her maid of honor. It's predictable, but in the good way where these characters have been around for such a long time that you know them well enough to get this. It was sweet to have Penny suddenly realize that Amy was truly her best friend, and to demand her right as maid of honor because of this. Amy's original obsession towards Penny has grown into a genuine friendship, so that was a good moment of culmination for them. In fact, it's a bit refreshing to see this show delve in to the intricacies of female friendship, given that the original concept was all about the four men.

I don't have much else to say. I could have done with seeing Sheldon ask Leonard to be his best man, but maybe we'll get the bromantic resolution to that at the wedding. I'm sure Leonard will make a funny/touching speech... right? I never know with this show. They seem to leave some really promising scenes out of the show entirely for some reason.

7.5/10
